Chinese Box is the tenth episode of the fourth season. It was released on 14 December 2007.

David trades himself for a hostage in an elevator at the F.B.I. building, and Don keeps brushing aside Charlie's technical suggestions on how to save David as an all-out assault is planned.

Chris Bruno, who plays Tim King in the episode, is the older brother of Dylan Bruno (Colby Granger).

The title evokes the Chinese box as a layered concept of changing nature, as well as the simple, claustrophobic, basic 'box' elements.

Enrico Colantoni, who plays the hostage taker in this episode, began playing the regular role of a hostage negotiator on Flashpoint (2008), which was also broadcast in the USA by CBS.

Tim King aka Chris Bruno plays an FBI Agent is Colby Granger aka Dylan Bruno's brother in real life.

Ben's workspace, as visited by agents Warner and Reeves, is highly reminiscent of that of Harry Caul (played by Gene Hackman) in the 1974 movie The Conversation, also about a paranoid wiretapper/surveillor.

At the end, inside the elevator David pushes the "LL" button to get the car moving. Moments later, the elevator stops at the lobby "L", not the lower lobby "LL".
