Scan Man is the fifth episode of the fifth season. It was released on 31 October 2008.
The death of an agent kicks everyone into high gear, but that slows down when their prime suspect turns out to have Autism Spectrum Disorder, Charlie steps on toes re-establishing himself as the resident expert, and Don looks for deeper meaning.
- This appears to reference the ability displayed by certain profoundly autistic individuals (probably the best-known example being Dustin Hoffman's character in "Rain Man") to absorb immense and detailed information at a glance.
Why did one of the FBI agents check the pulse of a man who had been clearly electrocuted before firstly disconnecting him for the car battery, and making sure she was insulated for any remaining charge or current?
When Charlie checks Emerson's math skills, he asks for the root of 7. The correct answer is 2.64575131106, but Emerson says 2.645751311106 (a superfluous '1').
When Charlie tares the bar code off of the box of pears, most of it is removed. Seconds later when he shows it to Don, only about half the bar code is missing. This would actually leave enough of the bar code to be scanned correctly.
Charlie only tares the 1-D bar code (the one with just straight lines) off, he leaves the 2-D bar code (the smaller, speckled image above the 1-D code). The 2-D code contains all the info he describes to Don and include the info in the 1-D code.
