Thirty-Six Hours is the eighth episode of the fifth season. It was released on 21 November 2008.

Two trains collide, a passenger train and a freight train carrying toxic chemicals. Don, Charlie and the team are brought to the scene, investigating a potential crime.

This episode aired later in the season than intended because a big train crash happened close to the original air date. Several scenes involving Charlie's loss of FBI clearance were cut as a result. One remnant of the cut story line is that Charlie wears an LAPD security pass at the train scene, not an FBI pass.

A camera and hand can be clearly seen as Don pulls David away from the train near the start of the episode telling him that there is a toxic leak.

People dying disappear instantaneously from the infrared display. Corpses temperature taking several hours to fall to ambient temperature, they should disappear progressively from the display.

As the kid who has asthma, is given his inhaler, he quickly takes a puff, only he didn't shake the puffer prior to taking the medicine and continues to do so, for a couple of puffs. Author comments: I know as I have asthma and have to shake the puffer prior to inhaling the medicine.
